A general broadening of content and methods, a renewed emphasis on student interests, and diverse critical perspectives can currently be seen internationally in art curricula. This book explores ways that visual culture in education is helping to move art curricula off their historical foundations and open the field to new ways of teaching, learning, and prefiguring worlds. It highlights critical histories and contemporary stories, showing how cultural milieu influences and is influenced by the various practices that make up the professional field inside and outside of institutional borders. This book shows students how contemporary art educators are responding, revising, and re-creating the field.

El presente libro reúne una serie de ensayos en torno a las relaciones entre arte y pedagogía, mediante la indagación de lo que significa la interdisciplinariedad o transdisciplinariedad al tratar temas como la imagen y su circulación, el cuerpo, el cuidado de sí o la formación de subjetividades. Esta publicación recoge el análisis de nuevas formas de subjetivación, otros modos de caracterizar la historia del arte colombiano, las experiencias diarias del ejercicio docente, la inclusión del lenguaje corporal en las prácticas artísticas en escenarios de formación o la imagen como un territorio de libertad en un espacio ligado a las redes sociales y a internet. Así, se proponen algunos elementos novedosos para una lectura de la enseñanza de las artes, pues se trata de entender el arte no como un instrumento de la pedagogía sino desde la experiencia que también atraviesa la pedagogía y define a ambas.

A class of child artists in Mexico, a ship full of child refugees from Spain, classrooms of child pageant actors, and a pair of boy ambassadors revealed facets of hemispheric politics in the Good Neighbor era. Culture-makers in the Americas tuned into to children as producers of cultural capital to advance their transnational projects. In many instances, prevailing conceptions of children as innocent, primitive, dependent, and underdeveloped informed perceptions of Latin America as an infantilized region, a lesser "Other Americas" on the continent. In other cases, children's interventions in the cultural politics, economic projects, and diplomatic endeavors of the interwar period revealed that Latin American children saw themselves as modern, professional, participants in forging inter-American relationships.
