Excerpt from Annual Report of the Attorney-General of the United States for the Year 1897 Of the 69 cases in which the Government was appellee, etc., 17 were determined in its favor and 35 adversely, 2 were dismissed by the appellants, etc., 7 were dismissed by the court for failure of the appel lant, etc., to comply with the rules, 1 was docketed and dismissed, 4 were dismissed for want of jurisdiction, in 1 error was confessed, and 1 case, in which the Government was cross-appellant, was decided partly in its favor, and 1 was reversed by stipulation. Of the above 115 cases 26 were appeals from the Court of Claims. Of these 16 were taken by the Government, 1 being a cross appeal. Of the 16 cases so appealed 6 were decided in its favor and 7 adversely, 1 was dismissed by the court, 1 dismissed per stipulation, and in 1 the Government was a stakeholder, while of the 10 cases in which it was appellee 8 were decided in its favor, in 1 it was a stakeholder, and 1 was dismissed per stipulation. Of the 115 cases disposed of 37 were criminal, of which 11 were decided in favor of the United States and 14 adversely, 7 were dis missed by the court for failure of the plaintiffs in error to comply with the rules, 1 was dismissed by the plaintiff in error, in 1 error was con fessed by the United States, and 3 were dismissed by the court for want of jurisdiction.
