Follow GG as she tells the tale (pun intended) of her observations on how we hoomans can find endless joy in spite of turmoil and experience great love despite tragedy. We all know the chaos that is all too familiar in this world. Have we not all experienced a breath-stealing challenge at one time or another? Is it even possible to find joy in the midst of life's storms? Is extraordinary love a fairy tale? If extraordinary love and joy are possible, how can an ordinary girl even begin to feel such grandiose emotions? Take a walk with GG as she shares a sometimes-heartbreaking, often-comical, always-poignant view of the ultimate hooman experience. In GG's eyes, love is perfectly beautiful and always extraordinary. No matter what turmoil might be happening around you, you will find comfort as GG observes and reflects on ways we can use to discover the extraordinary love that we all seek. Her story will certainly make you giggle and maybe even shed a tear or two. And it will definitely inspire you.

Between 2001–2011, Disney Channel produced several sitcoms aimed at tweens that featured female protagonists with extraordinary abilities (e.g., celebrity and super/magical powers). In this book, Christina H. Hodel argues that, while male counterparts in similar programs openly displayed their extraordinariness, the female characters in these programs were often forced into hiding and secrecy, which significantly diminished their agency. She analyzes sitcom episodes, commentary in magazine articles, and web-based discussions of these series to examine how they portrayed female youths and the impact it had on its adolescent viewers. Combining close readings of dialogue and action with socioeconomic and historical contextual insights, Hodel sheds new light on the attitudes of the creators of these programs (mostly white, middle-aged, Western, heterosexual males) and the long-term impact on women today. Ultimately, her analysis shows, these blockbuster sitcoms reveal that despite Disney’s progress toward creating empowered girls, the network was—and still is—locked into tradition. This book is of interest to scholars of Disney studies, cultural studies, television studies, and gender studies.

Over the span of two years, Roxanne Cibuzar located women who knew and loved men who served in World War II, the Korean War, and Vietnam. She collected their untold stories and also asked about their “rules for life.” These amazing testaments are now compiled in Ordinary Women from Extraordinary Times. Katie, Corrine, Clara, Betty, and Loni are unique, ranging in age from sixty-seven to ninety-five. Their lives are history lessons on the unique eras in which they lived, but all their stories bring honor to the men who served to defend the United States. In the end, over the course of her interviews, Roxanne began to realize each woman’s life shared some common threads. Each woman had cultivated a heart for God. Their stories offer a glimpse into the past and into God’s faithful care, even amid turmoil, loss, and war.
