The purpose of this project was to develop an overview and a synthesis of the doctoral theses completed in the Department of Educational Administration at the University of Alberta from 1958 to 1991. This document describes the general characteristics of the research methodologies used in the studies; identifies trends in the use of research methodologies; identifies the major research areas and substantive themes in the studies; summarizes the outcomes of the studies in relation to major research areas and themes; and uses the results of the review as the basis for commenting on possible future emphases in doctoral studies.
