A World Interrupted is the kind of book that will inspire, uplift and motivate you in ways that you could have never imagined. I admire the fact that I took stories of struggles and brought them to life and was able to inspire someone in need of a voice. I feel that most of the people reading this book could relate to some of its content or know someone who has been through similar situations. I wrote this book with faith, my heart, hard work, persistence, love, and I'm truly proud of myself, the man that I am becoming, and those that God have put into my life to help me in every step of the way. If I never meet you in passing, please know that you are the reason that I continue to wake up every morning and make it my job to empower and inspire someone in this world to be the best person that they can become. I never wanted to be more than what God has planned for my life. I want to be God's walking vessel and with that being said, I want to ask people for forgiveness in advance, if I one day act out of character or lose myself in this world trying to find the way back to who I am. We as people get so caught up in what others have created us to be that we never really have time to get to know a person for everything that they are. I don't want you to ever feel as if I am one of those people who forget that I am human or that you are human or that we all are a work in progress. My sole purpose for writing this book is to empower and inspire people, to help release any built up feelings or pain that someone may have inside them, that they don't feel like sharing it with others, or maybe they do want to share it with others but don't know who that other person is. I want to help you find yourself and know that no matter what it is that you have been through, I can relate to not only your pain, but personally to your feelings. In closing, thank you for giving me a chance because chance is the reason I am here today. I may live in A World Interrupted, but one day I know a change is going to come for us all. I will continue to pray to God for strength and courage to do my part and hopefully those of you inspired will walk away attempting to do yours. With Love, Chico DaVincci Gillum

This global history as the Chinese would write it gives brilliant and unconventional insights for understanding China's role in the world, especially the drive to "Make China Great Again." We in the West routinely ask: "What does China want?" The answer is quite simple: the superpower status it always had, but briefly lost. In this colorful, informative story filled with fascinating characters, epic battles, influential thinkers, and decisive moments, we come to understand how the Chinese view their own history and how its narrative is distinctly different from that of Western civilization. More important, we come to see how this unique Chinese history of the world shapes China's economic policy, attitude toward the United States and the rest of the world, relations with its neighbors, positions on democracy and human rights, and notions of good government. As the Chinese see it, for as far back as anyone can remember, China had the richest economy, the strongest military, and the most advanced philosophy, culture, and technology. The collision with the West knocked China's historical narrative off course for the first time, as its 5,000-year reign as an unrivaled superpower came to an ignominious end. Ever since, the Chinese have licked their wounds and fixated on returning their country to its former greatness, restoring the Chinese version of its place in the world as they had always known it. For the Chinese, the question was never if they could reclaim their former dominant position in the world, but when.

Could the best thing about religion be the heresies it spawns? Leading intellectuals in interwar Europe thought so. They believed that they lived in a world made derelict by God's absence and the interruption of his call. In response, they helped resurrect gnosticism and pantheism, the two most potent challenges to the monotheistic tradition. In God Interrupted, Benjamin Lazier tracks the ensuing debates about the divine across confessions and disciplines. He also traces the surprising afterlives of these debates in postwar arguments about the environment, neoconservative politics, and heretical forms of Jewish identity. In lively, elegant prose, the book reorients the intellectual history of the era. God Interrupted also provides novel accounts of three German-Jewish thinkers whose ideas, seminal to fields typically regarded as wildly unrelated, had common origins in debates about heresy between the wars. Hans Jonas developed a philosophy of biology that inspired European Greens and bioethicists the world over. Leo Strauss became one of the most important and controversial political theorists of the twentieth century. Gershom Scholem, the eminent scholar of religion, radically recast what it means to be a Jew. Together they help us see how talk about God was adapted for talk about nature, politics, technology, and art. They alert us to the abiding salience of the divine to Europeans between the wars and beyond--even among those for whom God was long missing or dead.

From telemarketers to traffic jams to twenty-item shoppers in the ten-item line, our lives are full of interruptions. They're often aggravating, sometimes infuriating, and can make us want to tell people what we really think about them. But they also tell us something quite important about ourselves. The prophet Jonah's life was interrupted by a clear call of God that made him mad enough and scared enough to run in the completely opposite direction. Yet it wasn't really an interruption. It was an opportunity for Jonah to be involved in something the likes of which the Old Testament world had never seen: national revival in a Gentile country. What if Jonah had seen God's interruption for what it truly was—a divine intervention that held more adventure and possibility than any other thing he could have been doing at the time? What could have felt any better than being directly in the center of God's will? Yet we play it that same way—always running from major pains and minor problems that just don't seem to suit us at the time. Who knows what we're missing by being so interruption avoidant? In this very personal account of opportunities lost and lessons learned, popular conference speaker and author Priscilla Shirer shows how to embrace the amazing freedom and fulfillment that comes from going with God, even when He's going against your grain. .
