The perfect transliteration of the characters used by Japanese potters is a matter on which no foreigner living may dogmati'ze, indeed, various meanings may properly be assigned to many of these characters; but I feel no doubt whatever that the renderings of the marks in my volume are substantially correct, for they have been passed under review by four accomplished native scholars.
