"A Straight Deal or The Ancient Grudge" is a book about the relationship between the Germans, Americans, and Britons before and after WWI. The book consists of a series of polemics aiming at making Americans less hostile toward the British before and after the U.S. entered World War I on their side. The whole idea of the work started from the author's published opinion on the American-British reaction, which developed into a burning discussion.

Owen Wister (1860-1938) was an American writer whose stories helped to establish the cowboy as an archetypical hero. Wister helped to create the basic Western myths and themes, which were later popularized by radio, television, and movies. His most famous work is the 1902 "The Virginian."
