Hugh Malvern Harris was born 6 March 1924 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. His parents were William Franklin Harris (1897-1968) and Marian Maxine Magruder (b. 1905). He married Angeline Agnes Block 19 February 1955 in Riverton, Wyoming. They had a son and a daughter. Ancestors, descendants and relatives lived mainly in Colorado, Virginia and North Carolina.

This work begins in the 1700s, prior to the county's establishment, and records interesting incidents and major historic events of the day, as well as the names and character of many early settlers. There are also rare documents such as Colonel John Buchanan's journal, William Campbell's letter to his wife, and the Tory warning to Campbell. The history then describes the first permanent settlement, and the tumultuous times of Dunmore's War and the American Revolution. Genealogical data and family history are woven into the narrative throughout the volume. This is a complete and relatively modern history, which includes aerial view photographs. Chiefly a record of some of the descendants of James Sage. He was born ca. 1749 near London, England. He immigrated to America ca. 1773. He married Lovis (Lovice) Ott (Utt) 15 Dec 1780 in Montgomeroy County, Virginia. She was the daughter of Sylvester Ott. They were the parents of fourteen children. He died 17 Mar 1820. She died 28 Aug 1854. Descendants lived in Virginia, Missouri and elsewhere.

Charles Davies (b.ca. 1706) emigrated from England to Philadelphia, and married Hannah Matson in 1732/1733. Descendants (chiefly spelling the surname Davis) and relatives lived in Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Ohio, Indiana, Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, California and elsewhere.
