There are a total of 30 short stories in this collection, divided into three parts. The first part is named after my early award-winning novel, "Lao Han's Pizzeria." The stories in this part are generally about the lives of new and old Chinese immigrants and students in the United States, which may be joyful, sad, or satirical. The second part is basically the work I wrote after I became a lawyer, with the part title “Prison Visitation." The stories in this part are mainly based on the people and matters I have represented as a lawyer (of course, the names are all fictitious). These stories mainly write about some Chinese new immigrants’ struggles, legal troubles, confusion, and helplessness in the U.S. The third part is a group of mini fictions with my award-winning work "Age Issue" as the part title. The mini fictions in this part are mostly humorous or satirical descriptions of the life dilemmas of new and old Chinese immigrants in the new cultural environment. There are no heroes, no gladiators, no politicians, and no celebrities. What you will read here is about the people we meet, the things we witness, and the emotions we experience every day in this country as immigrants.

About the Author My name is Mrs. Linda D. Carter. Currently, I live in Chester, VA with my husband of forty four years, Apostle W. D. Carter, III. I began writing at the age of thirteen, and before long I developed a love for it. At this time I am working for a local hospital as a unit secretary. I also enjoy writing and composing songs, and have recorded some of them. I enjoy singing to our patients and my co-workers. I have had eight nervous breakdowns, and have miraculously survived them all. I have written this book in order to share my experiences with others who are also suffering from mental illness in order to show them that there is a way out. And the way out is through Jesus Christ, the Son of the Living God.

From the Classroom to the Corner explores the in-school and out-of-school experiences of three young women who dropped out of school as adolescents and turned to prostitution. This fascinating book presents them as case studies in the context of dropping out, in-school and non-school curriculum, adolescent prostitution, feminist theory, and race, class, and gender. Most prostitutes state that they are on the streets because they lack the educational credentials and job training required for gainful employment; therefore, the educational experiences of these young women are tantamount to any attempt to retain girls on the fringes. This book gives insight into how the educational system and classroom experience fail to meet the needs of these marginalized young women, and offers curricular designs to address the educational needs of dropouts and potential dropouts. The effects of the non-school curriculum on these girls' academic experience are also explored.
