Within the Mediterranean construction tradition, sacred architecture has always played a very prominent role, giving rise to the most numerous and best preserved historical buildings prior to the 18th century that have survived. Throughout 5,000 years the visual plot has been shown as the systematic alphabet that Mediterranean cultures have used to write multiple architectural accounts of a sacred and ceremonial nature. We will begin this memory — a true travel notebook — by presenting what the Christian temples of discipline have taught us. Then we travel to Egypt, Rome and finally to Malta and Gozo. The systematicity and similarities in the crystallization of the ideological discourse were incredible and we invite the reader to verify those teachings. To facilitate this, the text includes more than 360 sketches and 300 images of more than 200 buildings belonging to 17 countries.

Desde una visión interdisciplinar, esta obra se centra en el futuro del mundo rural, profundizando en la áreas temáticas de la política de desarrollo rural, las tendencias de la economía rural, las infraestructuras y la organización territorial, el patrimonio natural, el arquitectónico y cultural, y la nueva sociedad rural, exponiendo experiencias y explorando nuevas ideas que contribuyan a hacer de las áreas rurales espacios dinámicos e innovadores.

En el marco de una crisis que marca los límites del pensamiento neoliberal, los nuevos movimientos sociales –excluidos, sin papeles, sin empleo, sin vivienda, migrantes, pueblos indígenas– proponen iniciativas desde abajo. Gracias a un esfuerzo poco habitual, que conjuga proyección teórica y conocimiento directo de una de las experiencias de autonomía más reflexivas de las últimas décadas, Jérôme Baschet propone un balance crítico del zapatismo y analiza la organización política de esas comunidades autónomas federadas que se hicieron cargo de los servicios de salud, educación, policía y justicia. Más allá de las recetas revolucionarias del siglo XX, Baschet explicita las características más complejas del capitalismo financiarizado y explora vías alternativas para la elaboración práctica de nuevas formas de vida.

This book addresses contemporary discourses on a wide variety of topics related to the ideological and epistemological changes of the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries, and the ways in which they have shaped the Spanish language and cultural manifestations in both Spain and Hispanic America. The majority of the chapters are concerned with ‘otherness’ in its various dimensions; the alien Other – foreign, immigrant, ethnically different, disempowered, female or minor – as well as the Other of different sexual orientation and/or ideology. Following Octavio Paz, otherness is expressed as the attempt to find the lost object of desire, the frustrating endeavour of the androgynous Plato wishing to embrace the other half of Zeus, who in his wrath, tore off from him. Otherness compels human beings to search for the complement from which they were severed. Thus a male joins a female, his other half, the only half that not only fills him but which allows him to return to the unity and reconciliation which is restored in its own perfection, formerly altered by divine will. As a result of this transformation, one can annul the distance that keeps us away from that which, not being our own, turns into a source of anguish. The clashing diversity of all things requires the human predisposition to accept that which is different. Such a predisposition is an expression of epistemological, ethical and political aperture. The disposition to co-exist with the different is imagined in the de-anthropocentricization of the bonds with all living realms. And otherness is, in some way, the reflection of sameness (mismidad). The other is closely related to the self, because the vision of the other implies a reflection about the self; it implies, consciously or not, a relationship with the self. These topics are addressed in this book from an interdisciplinary perspective, encompassing arts, humanities and social sciences.
