Data collected by the Fermilab CDF detector are used to measure the inclusive b{bar b} jet production cross section in proton-antiproton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV. Vertices displaced from the primary interaction point (secondary vertices) are a signature for long-lived decay and are used to identify jets originating from b quarks. An event sample containing two jets, each having an identified secondary vertex, is used. The jets are required to be within the pseudo-rapidity region.

We report on the preliminary measurement of the inclusive jet cross section for {vert_bar}[eta]{vert_bar} [less than or equal to] 0.5 at [square root]s = 1.8 TeV. Two data sets with integrated luminosities of 91 pb−1 and 14 pb−1 were collected at the Fermilab Tevatron {ovr p}p Collider with the D0 detector. The inclusive jet cross sections are measured and reported as a function of transverse jet energy (35 GeV [less than or equal to] E{sub T} [less than or equal to] 470 GeV) are in excellent agreement with next-to-leading order QCD. 11 refs., 4 figs.

Recent measurements of jet and multijet production cross sections from p{bar p} collisions recorded with the Collider Detector at Fermilab (CDF) are summarized. First Run II results of the inclusive one jet cross section at (square root)s = 1.96 TeV as well as prospects for future extensions of this measurement are presented. We also studied the properties of three-jet events in Run Ib data at (square root)s = 1.8 TeV. All results are compared to predictions of Quantum Chromodynamics at next-to-leading order perturbation theory.

The Collider Detector at Fermilab (CDF) is a multi-purpose detector designed to study proton-antiproton collisions at center-of-mass energies of 1.96 TeV/c2. One of the most importatn components of CDF is the silicon tracking detector. A detailed description of the testing and construction of the CDF silicon tracker is presented. Measurements of the tracking efficiency of the completed detector are also provided. Using 36 pb−1 of the J/[psi] data sample collected by CDF between February and October 2002, the inclusive B → J/[psi] X cross-section is measured in p{bar p} interactions at √s = 1.96 TeV/c2. The fraction of J/[psi] events arising from the decay of b hadrons is extracted using an unbinned maximum likelihood fit to the decay length of the J/[psi] candidates. The p{sub T} dependent differential cross section for inclusive B → J/[psi] X events with rapidity.
