Bridges and other highway structures are a key part of a well-managed transport infrastructure. This Code of Practice contains guidance on effective management policy designed to establish a co-ordinated framework of good practice across the UK drawn from the shared experience of relevant authorities. The Code highlights the need for a holistic approach to highway structures management that gives due consideration to the wider highway network and the local environment. Chapters include: asset management planning; financial planning and resource accounting; maintenance planning; inspection, testing and monitoring; assessment of structures; management of abnormal loads; asset information management; framework for a bridge management system; and implementation of the Code.
