Just who is this Saint Matthew anyway? To start with he was not called Mathew by Mark and Luke, he was called Levi. He was a tax collector and as I read I find him to be a bit of a stickler about exactness which would fit his occupation. He was also smart enough to be able to write shorthand which he did in Hebrew and I suspect this may be one of the reasons he was chosen by Christ to follow along on His journey. This book of Saint Matthew it is believed was written sometime before the year 70 AD which as we remember was the year Jerusalem was destroyed.
