Based on examples using clinical and experimental data, this concise introductory textbook provides an insight into the immune system, prompting readers to ask critical questions in order to further advance our understanding. “Exploring the Spectrum of Viral escapology at Molecular Level: A fascinating area of immunology.” While the biology of viruses and that of the host's immune system are both complex, the governing principle underlying their interaction is simple – natural selection. Natural selection has led to the evolution of the pathogens we confront today, and natural selection has also shaped, over a different time scale, the human immune system. Viruses have ‘studied’ immunology over millions of years of coevolution with their hosts. During this ongoing education they have developed countless mechanisms to escape from the host's immune system. To illustrate the most common strategies of viral immune escape, researchers have focused on two murine models of persistent infection: 1. Lymphocytic choriomeningitis virus (LCMV): It being a fast replicating small RNA virus with a genome prone to mutations, escapes from the immune system mainly by two strategies: ‘speed’ & ‘shape change’ and 2. Murine cytomegalovirus (MCMV). A large virus, complex DNA virus with a more rigid genome and thus the strategies used by it are no option. · The escape strategies of MCMV have been described as ‘camouflage’ & ‘sabotage’. Thus an attempt has been made in this Booklet to discuss the mechanisms of viral evasion of host defense into some simple categories, which would then allow individual biochemical or immunological phenomena to be placed into some overall perspective. …Dr. H. Tending Adam's Garden describes and explains the way in which our immune system works from a novel perspective. The book uses metaphors and examples to bring the immune system to life and explores the fundamental miracle of nature. Written in plain language for a broad audience, this book encompasses much more than just immunology, exploring more fundamental matters such as causality, information, energy, evolution, cognition and individuality, as well as the strategy of the immune system and its role in health and disease. Provides a unique perspective on the immune system from one of the keenest scientific and philosophical brains in the world Uses metaphors and case histories to explore themes in an accessible manner Written in plain language requiring no specialized vocabulary or specific scientific background in the subject

This book discusses the novel metabolic cross-talk between immune and tumor cells in the tumor microenvironment that promotes their growth and progression. It also describes deregulated metabolism in cancer cells that promotes suppressive and cancer cell-favourable microenvironment. Further, the book provides novel insights on the metabolic changes in immune cells that promote tumor cell growth and survival. In turn, it also reviews the involvement of immuno-onco metabolic cross-talk in the development of resistance to chemo-radiation therapy (CRT) in tumor cells. Lastly, it also explores the potential of immuno-oncology metabolism as a therapeutic approach against tumor cells.
