As with almost every other part of our daily lives, information technology is now indispensable in the legal sphere. The variety of applications has grown, keeping pace with developments in the wider field of artificial intelligence: logic and argument have been joined by statistical methods and data, and knowledge engineering has been enriched by machine learning. This book presents the papers delivered at the 29th International Conference on Legal Knowledge and Information Systems – JURIX 2016, held in Nice, France, in December 2016. From the 56 submissions received for the conference, 11 were selected for publication as full papers, 10 as short papers, and 10 as posters, which are included in the proceedings for the first time. The papers address a wide range of topics at the interface of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Law, such as argumentation, norms and evidence, network science, information retrieval, and natural language processing. Many of the theories and technologies explored in the papers are drawn from real-life materials, including cases brought before the European Court of Human Rights, Dutch and Greek legal texts, and international investment agreements and contracts. This book constitutes the proceedings of the 23rd International Conference on Theory and Practice of Digital Libraries, TPDL 2019, held in Olslo, Norway, in September 2019. The 16 revised full papers,12 short papers and 18 poster papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 75 submissions. The general theme of TPDL 2019 was Connecting with Communities and so the papers attempt to facilitate establishing connections and convergences between diverse research communities such as Digital Humanities, Information Sciences and others that could benefit from ecosystems offered by digital libraries and repositories. EuroVoc is a multilingual thesaurus which was originally built up specifically for processing the documentary information of the EU institutions. It is a multidisciplinary thesaurus covering fields which are sufficiently wide-ranging to encompass both European Union and national points of view, with a certain emphasis on parliamentary activities. EuroVoc is a controlled set of vocabulary which can be used outside the EU institutions, particularly by parliaments. The aim of the thesaurus is to provide the information management and dissemination services with a coherent indexing tool for the effective management of their documentary resources and to enable users to carry out documentary searches using controlled vocabulary.
