Zbornik vsebuje dopolnjena in za objavo prirejena predavanja, ki so jih predstavili udeleženci mednarodne konference z naslovom Jezikovna različnost in nacionalni jeziki v visokem šolstvu, ki je potekala 19. in 20. novembra 2009 v Ljubljani. Prispevki, ki so objavljeni v zborniku, prikazujejo položaj nacionalnih jezikov v visokem šolstvu in znanosti v teh državah, opozarjajo pa tudi na izgubo strokovnih področij in vpliv angleščine na nacionalne terminologije.

This volume contains a selection of papers on various aspects, mainly linguistic, of the present day situation of the Celtic languages of Britain and Ireland. The papers were given at the Third International Conference on Minority Languages, which was held in Galway, Ireland in June 1986. A companion volume, entitled Third International Conference on Minority Languages: Celtic Papers is also published by Multilingual Matters Ltd.

A compilation of papers taken from the Fourth International Conference on Minority Languages. While the first volume focused on the more theoretically orientated papers, this volume emphasizes the inventorial or descriptive approach.

"This volume brings together a selection of papers in linguistics presented at the 13th edition of the Conference on British and American Studies. Structured into three chapters, the studies included here are illustrative for the different perspectives, methodologies, and research traditions in the investigation of language-related phenomena. The first chapter, "Language Change and Cross-Linguistic Analysis", is mainly concerned with the external and internal catalysts for language change, and with a number of morphosyntactic and semantic particularities of Romanian, set in contrast with other languages. Aspects related to first or second language learning and language as an instrument of thought form the content of the second chapter, "Language Acquisition, Teaching and Processing". The focus of the final chapter, "Pragmatics, Translation, and the Negotiation of Meaning", is language as an instrument of power and (self-)communication."
